Home guard

January 31st, 2010

Well,we’re having a bit of sunshine lately and Mum is pretty pleased and goes round in the garden taking pictures of flowers – yes we have flowering plants here in the middle of winter. This is one of her favourites. It’s an orange Hamamelis or Witch Hazel.

We have a yellow one as well which looked like this last year.

Mum has kind of started on her New Year’s Resolution which was that this year she would learn to give us Airedos herself. So she went to Sheffield and came back with some new clippers. We would just like to say Thank You very much to Yopin from Woodseats Superpet who was a great help and went out of her way to advise Mum on how to do it. The clippers are great – quiet (Nelly gets a bit nervous with buzzy things!) and they don’t get hot.

I did say Mum started; well the front of me is pretty good and it’s great to have less hair around my ears and eyes! The back is work in progress! Here’s a picture of the front …

Nelly has pretty much accepted that she has to stay at home while I go for walks now. I think it helped when I told her that she has an important job to do while I’m away … she is the Home guard! She is pretty keen.

I told her exactly what to do while I’m away …

She did her best to take it all in.

Nelly is in Biiiiig Trouble!

January 19th, 2010

NellyInTrouble

As you all know my little sister is on ‘bedrest’ because of her poorly leg/hip. … Well, the first few days she was ok with that and quite enjoyed it.

This morning Mum went out to run some errands and closed the babygate between my room and the kitchen where Nelly stays when Mum is out (so she doesn’t start a mad ‘biteyface’ session while Mum’s out!). All I could hear was a lot of bouncing about and then ‘RIIIIIIIIIP!’ and loads more bouncing and some more ‘RIIIIIIIIIIIIP!, ‘RIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIP!’

And this is what Mum found when she came home …

ShrededBasket

Nelly had only completely trashed her new basket! Naughty Girl!

ButterMelt

Look at her! Butter wouldn’t melt …

All that was left for her to sit on was the mat from inside the basket.

Sooooo, … Mum put her thinking cap on and fetched in an old feeding towel of ours and proceeded to try and repair things.

PatternMaking

She made a pattern of the cushion and cut the towel out around the cushion giving plenty of seam allowance …

Nelly helped with the colour matching …

Then it was time to pin and tack things together …

Tacking

and finally try and sew it all around the bottom of the basket …

Sewing

There! Good as new!

NellyRelaxing

… and this evening she is luxuriating back in her own basket as if nothing happened! She says it smells nicer now – a bit like dinner!

Nelly is a typical 16 month old teenage ADT – full of energy and drive. She is getting really bored because she can’t let off steam. She is tons better for having had a complete rest. She can get up normally off the floor at any time of the day now. She will however remain on ‘bedrest’ for a good while longer with just short walks to break the boredom. I just hope the terry toweling is strong enough to last the course … redface

Happy New Year 2010!

HappyNewYear

Happy New Year to all our Blogging Friends!

Hope you had a good Christmas and plenty of new toys to unstuff . Mum & Dad just realized today that quite a considerable amount of the white stuff  in the garden wasn’t the kind that melts!

Nelly is into unstuffing toys in a big way!!! In fact she is also into being a land-shark lately … before Christmas I told her that if she doesn’t stop biting bottoms (and not just mine!) Santa won’t bring her any presents …

Yikes

That sort of worked … she stopped for a day! rolleyes

But she must have been good because Santa brought her some presents anyway.  Naturally I was in charge of unwrapping!

(Nelly’s recall is VERY good – she’s a little rocket and comes licking her lips – frankfurter sausage is such a marvelous motivator – whereas Finni comes … eventually)

We’ve had a lot of snow since before Christmas too.

(You’ll have to excuse the quality of this clip. We have a new camera with zooming facility whilst filming but I took this clip in HD (file too big!) and had to re-video it from another computer screen. I am slowly getting the hang of it :) )

But I think she hurt herself when we were playing in the snow, because Mum noticed that Nelly couldn’t get up of the mat in the afternoons. She was fine in the mornings! But in the afternoon she just couldn’t get her bottom off the floor. At first Mum thought Nelly has HD  ! Mum stopped taking her for walks but let her play a little bit in the garden – but it didn’t get any better, so off they went to the vet on Thursday. Nelly had a very thorough examination and the Verdict is: ‘Soft tissue damage’ as far as could be ascertained without doing an x-ray (Mum’s not too keen on having Nelly anesthetized) – so Nelly is on ‘bedrest’ for the next 2 weeks.

When Nelly heard about the bedrest her left ear drooped 2 inches (it always does that when she’s not sure what to think – it’s the ‘but I’ve been a good girl’ look!) …

WorriedNelly

So we’re trying to keep her occupied with various bits …

OccupationalTherapy

Leadwalks in the garden, no more biteyface for a while … I’m keeping her company and watch over her when she sleeps.

WatchingOverNelly

She is also on Homeopathic medication and Glucosamine sulphate. We’re trying to keep her really calm because if she’s no better in 2 weeks she’ll have to have that x-ray …
